Qualifications & Preference:
· At least four (4) years relevant crop breeding field experience; Relevant genotyping and phenotyping experience in crops.
· Has good to excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Filipino
· BS in Plant Breeding, Genetics or related fields, MS preferred
Basic purpose: The successful candidate will handle the generation of Multi parent advance generation intercross (MAGIC) populations (MAGIC indica, MAGIC japonica, MAGIC Global and MAGIC Plus), development of recombinant inbred lines for breeding and genetic analyses and introgress some abiotic and biotic stress tolerance to Taiwan rice varieties.
Roles and responsibilities:
· Responsible for the generation advancement of different MAGIC populations (MAGIC indica, MAGIC japonica, MAGIC Global and MAGIC Plus).
· Responsible for managing field experiments at IRRI and / or other nearby sites and collaborate with other Researchers on ongoing MAGIC multi-environment testing (MET)to generate field data needed for analysis.
· Assist in crossing program to intogress drought, salinity, bacterial leaf blight, rice blast to Taiwan rice varieties.
· Responsible for selection in different MAGIC populations along with other Scientist / Researchers and provide the seed inventory for the selected and advanced MAGIC breeding lines.
· Provides technical assistance and works closely with Scientists and Researchers, from within and outside IRRI, in aspects of seed requests. MAGIC breeding and genetic design, analysis and interpretation to ensure statically valid and sound research results.
· Prepare scientific documents related to the development, advancement and genetic analysis of different MAGIC populations.
· Perform other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervising IRS.
